I have examined the 100 years special issue Pasugo page. 64 where the book of Will Durant was used for reference (The Story of Civilization Vol. III, page 595). It is a good thing that there was a PDF copy in the internet. It is clear that they again misrepresented a reference. What they claim to be written in page 595 in the book of Will Durant are not actually in that page but in page 720.

“…Historian Will Durant in his book The Story of Creation III—— Ceasar and Christ says: “Christianity did not destroy paganism; it adopted it. The Greek mind, dying, came to a transmigrated life in the theology and liturgy of the Church… the Greek mysteries passed down into the impressive Mystery of the Mass. Other pagan cultures contributed to the syncretist result. From Egypt came the ideas of a divine trinity… the adoration of the Mother and Child … From Phrygia came the worship of the Great Mother; from Syria the resurrection drama of Adonis, … The Mithraic ritual so closely resembled the Eucharistic sacrifice of the Mass… Christianity was the last great creation of the ancient pagan world.” (p.595)” (PASUGO 100 YEARS SPECIAL ISSUE (PAGE 64))
Aside from them saying that their reference was in page 595 of Will Durant’s book and not on 720, they left out an important fact. “The
Mithraic ritual so closely resembled the eucharistic sacrifice of
the Mass that Christian fathers charged the Devil with inventing these
similarities to mislead frail minds. “
The Church fathers never affirmed paganism as primary source. Paganism may be a source of inculturation but we must understand that Bible and tradition (2Thess2:15) are our main sources.
