I got to thinking; Do you feel it better if Eucharistic Prayer I (prayer of Hippolytus) was used less often as I understand that of the four, it expresses less succinctly the concept of the sacrifice? EP I is the original Roman Canon, am I correct on that?

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER WHICH WAS PATTERNED AFTER THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER OF ST. HIPPOLYTUS IS EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II NOT EUCHARISTIC PRAYER I. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II IS THE SHORTEST OF FOUR EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS OF THE PAULINE MASS HOWEVER IT IS NOT LESS IN PROCLAIMING THE CONCEPT OF SACRIFICE. IT STATES CLEARLY THAT IT OFFERS TO THE FATHER “THE BREAD OF LIFE” AND “THE CUP OF ETERNAL SALVATION”. IT IS ALSO HUMBLY ASKING THE FATHER THAT OUR PARTAKING IN THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST WE MAY BE GATHERED INTO ONE BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. THIS IS SURELY VERY BIBLICAL AND IT SUMMARIZES THE SACRIFICIAL AND EUCHARISTIC THEOLOGY OF ST. PAUL PRESENTED IN I CORINTHIANS 10-11. ONLY THOSE WILL MALICIOUS MINDS WILL THINK THAT EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II IS NOT PRESENTING THE FULL EUCHARISTIC AND SACRIFICIAL THEOLOGY OF THE CHURCH.

SPEAKING OF THE “ORIGINAL” OBVIOUSLY THE LORD JESUS DIDN’T USE THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER I DURING HIS FIRST MASS AT THE LAST SUPPER AND IN THE POST RESURRECTION APPEARANCES. DO YOU THINK THAT JESUS WILL MENTION THE NAMES OF THE MARTYRS: AGATHA, LUCIA, COSMAS AND DAMIAN, ETC. DURING HIS MASSES THEN? OF COURSE NOT. THE ROMAN CANON 1 IS OF LATER INVENTION. IT CAME WHEN THE APOSTLES WERE DEAD ALREADY AND THOSE 3RD CENTURY SAINTS HAVE BEEN MARTYRED ALREADY.

THE APOSTLES AND THE APOSTOLIC FATHERS USED DIFFERENT ANAPHORAS FROM EUCHARISTIC PRAYER 1. LATER THE CHURCH IMPOSED ONLY THE ROMAN CANON 1 TO THE LATIN CHURCH AND WE RESPECT THAT. BUT NOW THAT THE CHURCH DECIDED TO GIVE FOUR EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS WE SAY: “THANKS BE TO GOD!!!” 

THERE ARE MANY ORIGINAL ROMAN CANONS AND EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS AND ANAPHORAS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CHURCH. THE ROMAN CANON OR THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER I IS ONLY ONE OF THEM. WE LOVE THE EP-I BUT AT THE SAME TIME WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD FOR EP-II-IV AND OTHERS APPROVED AND GIVEN BY THE CHURCH. THE MORE THE MERRIER.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS 2-4 ARE PROMULGATED AND APPROVED BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH THROUGH THE ROMAN CATHOLIC POPES. THEY ARE RECITED IN ROMAN CATHOLIC MASSES EXCEPT THOSE WHO ARE OUTSIDE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH LIKE THE SSPX AND THE SEDEVACANTISTS. SO IT IS NOT ONLY THE EP-1 WHO IS A ROMAN CANON. ALL FOUR ARE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS OR CANONS OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. 

THE CHURCH IS OUR MOTHER AND TEACHER. WE ACCEPT ALL THAT OUR MOTHER GIVE US AS FOOD AND GIFTS. WE ALSO LOVE AND ACCEPT WHAT OUR TEACHERS ARE TEACHING US IN MATH AND SCIENCE AND SO WE ACCEPT ALL THE ANAPHORAS AND EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS APPROVED BY THE CHURCH IN THE ROMAN MISSAL. IT IS SO NARROW MINDED TO CLOSE ONE’S MIND TO ONLY ONE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER WHEN OUR MATER ET MAGISTRA GIVES FOUR OF THEM. IT IS JUST LIKE ACCEPTING THE MONEY FROM YOUR MOM BUT YOU THROW AWAY THE CAKE, THE SHOES AND THE JACKET GIVEN SPECIALLY ON CHRISTMAS DAY. ALL GIFTS OF THE CHURCH ARE BLESSINGS TO US, UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE BLIND TO THE GOODNESS OF THE CHURCH’S LOVE FOR YOUR SALVATION.

LEARN FROM THE SPIRITUAL AND EUCHARISTIC TREASURY OF THE CHURCH, NOT MERELY FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE IMPOSING WHAT THEY WANT TO THE CHURCH. IN EUCHARISTIC 3 AND 4 THE THEOLOGY OF SACRIFICE IS ALSO GIVEN. OPEN YOUR MIND AND YOUR HEART AND DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE BLINDED BY PEOPLE WHO DECEIVE TO ADVANCE THEIR OWN AGENDA. AS ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA SAYS: SENTIRE CUM ECCLESIA. THINK WITH THE CHURCH. LET YOUR MIND AND HEART BE ONE WITH THE MINDSET OF THE CHURCH. THEN YOU WILL APPRECIATE ALL EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS, ALL ANAPHORAS AND ALL RITES OF THE HOLY MASS APPROVED BY THE CHURCH.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER I IS NICE IN MENTIONING THE WORD “SACRIFICE” BUT THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II IS MORE SPECIFIC IN PRESENTING THE “EPICLESIS”, THAT IS THE CALL TO THE HOLY SPIRIT TO INDWELL THE SACRED OFFERINGS TO BE THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST. HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF THAT? IT IS NOT ONLY THE THEOLOGY OF SACRIFICE THAT IS IMPORTANT BUT ALSO THE INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT UPON THE SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS. SO EUCHARISTIC PRAYER 1 AND 2 ACTUALLY COMPLEMENT EACH OTHER.
