I’m sorry, that was my mistake. I meant EPII at the beginning of my post. No, I had not given thought to your point about the Epiclesis. I’m by no means a scholar on this subject, so I would not have given this thought. I thank you for bringing it up, more importantly for your replies. Know that I am currently still attending both forms of the Mass, the Ordinary Form on weekdays and the Extraordinary Form on Sunday. I am following the advice of my assistant pastor of the Oratory. He told me to attend the Ordinary Form for as long as I desired, so long as it did not, as he put it, ‘injure’ my faith and so I have been doing so. I have not, up to this point in time, felt jeopardized in my faith. I hope to continue our exchanges and I need to read some of the other info on your site. I have, also, at your advice, looked at Dave Armstrong’s web page. Looks ti have some good information.
Thank you!

DEAR TERRY,

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

WE ARE SO DELIGHTED THAT YOU ARE ATTENDING BOTH THE ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY FORM OF THE ROMAN RITE OF THE HOLY MASS. THAT IS OUR GOAL FOR CATHOLICS TO LOVE BOTH. IF THE TLM WILL BE UNDER ATTACK WE WILL DEFEND IT AND IF THE NOVUS ORDO IS UNDER ATTACK WE WILL DEFEND IT. OF COURSE WE REJECT ANY LITURGICAL ABUSES ON BOTH FORMS. THEY MUST BE CELEBRATED WITH DIGNITY AND HONOR.

YOUR ASSOCIATE PASTOR IN THE ORATORY IS A WISE AND REASONABLE MAN OF GOD. GOD BLESS HIM FOR SUCH A BALANCED AND REASONABLE SHEPHERD OF THE FAITH.

GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS AND WE ARE READY TO SHARE TO YOU OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAITH.

A question, if I may. I prefer to receive the Sacrament at the Ordinary Form of the Mass in the same manner I do at the Tridentine; kneeling and on the tongue. The place at which I attend on most occasions; the two priests have no objection. A couple of other priests whom I posed this question to at other parishes (about receiving the Sacrament kneeling and on the tongue) were met with hesitation. Both of these priests said that I would be drawing attention to myself and one of the two said that it would disrupt the flow of the Communion line. I wondered what you thoughts might be on this subject and if I am wrong in wanting to receive in, what for me, is a position of reverence?
Thank you!!

[A question, if I may.]

HELLO TERRY. A BLESSED MERRY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR TO YOU. FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS. WE ARE GLAD TO RESPOND TO YOU.

[ I prefer to receive the Sacrament at the Ordinary Form of the Mass in the same manner I do at the Tridentine; kneeling and on the tongue.]

THAT IS VERY NICE. COMMUNION BY TONGUE AND KNEELING IS THE OFFICIAL WAY OF RECEIVING THE HOLY EUCHARIST. IF THAT IS THE WAY YOU PREFER TO RECEIVE THE LORD THEN THAT IS EXCELLENT AND THE PRIESTS MUST RESPECT YOUR PREFERRED MANNER OF RECEIVING THE LORD. HOWEVER, COMMUNION BY HAND IS ALSO APPROVED BY THE CHURCH AND AS WE DISCUSSED BEFORE IT IS ALSO BIBLICAL AND APOSTOLIC. BESIDES ALL CATHOLICS ARE KNEELING BEFORE COMMUNION, THAT IS, IN AGNUS DEI OR “LAMB OF GOD” WHEN EVERY BODY KNEELS BEFORE THE HOLY EUCHARIST.

[The place at which I attend on most occasions; the two priests have no objection.]

PRAISE THE LORD FOR THESE UNDERSTANDING PRIESTS.

[A couple of other priests whom I posed this question to at other parishes (about receiving the Sacrament kneeling and on the tongue) were met with hesitation.]

THAT IS A PITY. HOWEVER, DON’T BE DISHEARTENED BY THAT BECAUSE AS I’VE STATED BEFORE YOU ALREADY KNELT BEFORE THE LORD DURING THE AGNUS DEI. EVEN THE APOSTLES WERE KNEELING IN FRONT OF THE LORD ONCE BUT THEN AFTERWARD THEY TALK TO HIM AND BE WITH HIM STANDING. IF MAMA MARY AND PAPA JOSEPH WILL ONLY KNEEL IN FRONT OF JESUS THE WHOLE DAY LONG THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING ELSE SUCH AS COOKING, CLEANING AND OTHER WORKS.

MY POINT IS: THERE IS A REASON WHY POPE PAUL VI SIMPLIFIED THE RITE OF NOVUS ORDO. THE EXAGGERATIONS OF TOO MANY SIGN OF THE CROSS FOR THE CONSECRATION AND TOO MANY KNEELINGS ARE SIMPLIFIED TO BASIC: KNEEL DURING EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS AND DURING AGNUS DEI. THESE TWO KNEELINGS ARE ALREADY ENOUGH TO ADORE AND WORSHIP THE LORD. NO NEED TO EXAGGERATE. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE TLM RITE IT IS BUT PROPER TO FOLLOW THE RULES OF THOSE RITES. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, SEE THE WISDOM AND PRACTICALITY OF THE NOVUS ORDO MASS AS WELL.

EVEN THE RESURRECTED JESUS DIDN’T ASK THE APOSTLES TO KNEEL AND KNEEL. OF COURSE THEY KNELT BEFORE THE RISEN LORD BUT ALSO THEY STOOD UP AND EMBRACED HIM AND TOUCHED HIM. EVEN MARY MAGDALENE AND THE WOMEN WERE ALLOWED TO TOUCH HIM LATER [cf. Mt 28:9-10]. THERE ARE TIMES FOR KNEELING AND THERE ARE TIMES FOR STANDING. THE NOVUS ORDO HAS PRESERVED THAT MANNER OF BEING WITH JESUS. KNEEL ON IMPORTANT PARTS BUT MEET THE LORD STANDING AND TOUCH HIM… TAKE HIM AND BE IN COMMUNION WITH HIM: “TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU AND EAT OF IT…”

[Both of these priests said that I would be drawing attention to myself and one of the two said that it would disrupt the flow of the Communion line.]

WE DISAGREE WITH THEM. OUR PRIESTS WHO GIVE COMMUNION TO THOSE WHO ARE KNEELING ALSO FINISH THE MASSES ALMOST AT THE SAME TIME. ALSO WHEN ONE KNEELS THE OTHER PARISHIONERS USUALLY ARE PRAYING OR SINGING AT THEIR SEATS AND THEY DO NOT FOCUS ON THE LIVES OF OTHERS IN COMMUNION LINE. WHETHER THE COMMUNICANT WILL KNEEL OR NOT IF THE PEOPLE IN THE PEWS ARE LOOKING AT THEM THEN THEY WILL CALL ATTENTION. IF THEY ARE FOCUSED ON THEIR OWN COMMUNION WITH THE LORD THEN THEY MUST BE PRAYING OR SINGING PRAISE INSTEAD OF BEING BOTHERED BY THE PRACTICE OF OTHER PEOPLE IN THE LINE.

[ I wondered what you thoughts might be on this subject and if I am wrong in wanting to receive in, what for me, is a position of reverence?]

WELL, YOU ARE NOT WRONG. YOU ARE RIGHT. THE PRIESTS CELEBRATING THE MASS MUST RESPECT YOUR PREFERENCE. ON YOUR PART, RESPECT THE DECISION OF YOUR PRIESTS ALSO. IF THEY ASK YOU TO STAND THEN STAND: “OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE” OR RATHER “OBEDIENCE IS A SACRIFICE” ALSO. JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU DIDN’T DISRESPECT THE LORD. YOU ALREADY KNELT BEFORE HIM DURING THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS AND DURING THE AGNUS DEI. THE LORD HAVE SEEN YOUR ADORATION AND LOVE OF HIM.

WE PRAY THAT THOSE PRIESTS WILL UNDERSTAND YOU AND WE PRAY FOR YOU TOO THAT YOU BE UNDERSTANDING ON THOSE PRIESTS.

[Thank you!!]

YOU ARE WELCOME TERRY. ALWAYS WELCOME.
