One other thing, if I may. While I am aware of some, what is your experience regarding priests and how differently they might feel celebrating the Ordinary Form and I imagine this might be for those who celebrate both forms. I have understood some to feel as if they feel more ‘priestly’, if you take my meaning in celebration of the Extra as opposed to the Ordinary Form. Also, what might be your thoughts on St. Padre Pio and his views on the Ordinary Form. If I understand correctly, he was dispensed from the obligation of celebrating it, as I understand he was in opposition.

I enjoy our correspondence and always look forward to your response.

I thank you and God Bless!!

[One other thing, if I may.]

NO PROBLEM TERRY. WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO OBLIGE AND SHARE OUR THOUGHTS TO CLARIFY YOUR QUESTIONS.

[While I am aware of some, what is your experience regarding priests and how differently they might feel celebrating the Ordinary Form and I imagine this might be for those who celebrate both forms.]

PRIESTS ARE MEN OF THEIR TIME AS WELL AS MINISTERS OF GOD SENT TO EVANGELIZE ON THEIR OWN TIME. THEIR CELEBRATION OF THE ORDINARY FORM OF THE MASS IS BASED ON THE TRAINING GIVEN TO THEM. WE’VE NOTICED THAT THE SO CALLED TRADITIONAL PRIESTS THEY WERE FORMED TO PRACTICE DILIGENTLY EVERY ACTION WITH STRICTNESS AND RIGIDITY. BUT THE PRESENT DAY PRIESTS WERE FORMED TO LOOK AT THE MASS NOT WITH RIGIDITY BUT WITH JOYFULNESS AND DYNAMIC SPIRIT. THUS, A SO CALLED TRADITIONAL PRIEST THINKS THAT HE IS GLORIFYING GOD BY HIS SILENCE AND HIS LATIN AND HIS CANONICAL FINGERS AND HANDS SHOULDER-LENGTH WHILE THE OTHERS THINK THAT THEY GIVE GLORY TO GOD IF THEIR MASS IS LIVELY, JOYFUL, UNDERSTANDABLE TO THE LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE AND DONE IN A MANNER VERY EASY FOR THEM TO GRASP AND UNDERSTAND.

PRIESTS WHO ARE PRAYERFUL AND ARE VIRTUOUS AND IN STATE OF GRACE CELEBRATES THE MASS WITH HOLINESS AND DIGNITY WHETHER IT IS DONE IN TRIDENTINE LATIN MASS OR THE NOVUS ORDO OF VATICAN II. ST. JOHN VIANNEY WAS A VERY HOLY PRIEST CELEBRATING THE TLM BUT ST. JOHN PAUL THE GREAT IS VERY HOLY TOO CELEBRATING THE NOVUS ORDO MASSES. A PRIEST CELEBRATING THE MASS IN STATE OF MORTAL SIN WILL BE TERRIBLE WHETHER HE DO IT IN TLM OR NOVUS ORDO.

[ I have understood some to feel as if they feel more ‘priestly’, if you take my meaning in celebration of the Extra as opposed to the Ordinary Form.]

I HAVE HEARD SOME PRIEST SAYING SO. MOSTLY FROM THOSE WHO LIKE TLM. BUT I HAVE ALSO HEARD MANY PRIEST AND THERE ARE MORE OF THEM THAT THEY FEEL MORE PRIESTLY IN NOVUS ORDO. MANY FIND THE TLM TO RIGOROUS, TOO SHOWY, TOO MANY DECORATIONS AND SIGNS THAT ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY. SOME PREFER TO SAY THE CONSECRATION OUT LOUD BECAUSE THEY FEEL THAT IS MORE FAITHFUL TO WHAT THE LORD JESUS HAD DONE RATHER THAN TALKING TO THE WALL OR ONLY TO YOURSELF IMAGINING THAT ONLY GOD COULD HEAR YOU. BUT TO SAY THE PRAYERS LOUDLY IS MORE CONVINCING THAT BOTH THE PEOPLE AND GOD HEAR YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE PROCLAIMING AND RECITING THE PRAYERS AS THEY SHOULD BE: LOUDLY TO BE HEARD BY THE COMMUNITY OF BELIEVERS.

[ Also, what might be your thoughts on St. Padre Pio and his views on the Ordinary Form. If I understand correctly, he was dispensed from the obligation of celebrating it, as I understand he was in opposition.]

ONCE AGAIN STUDY THE PROPER HISTORY OF ST. PADRE PIO NOT JUST THE CLAIMS OF THE RAD TRADS WHICH IS SOMETIMES DISTORTED.

IT WAS BLESSED POPE PAUL VI WHO GAVE SPECIAL PROVISION THAT OLD PRIESTS WOULD BE DISPENSED FROM CELEBRATING THE NOVUS ORDO IF THEY REQUEST FOR IT. IT WAS A SPECIAL PRIVILEGE GIVEN BY THE POPE TO THE ELDERLY PRIEST. THE CASE OF PADRE PIO CELEBRATING THE TLM DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE NOVUS ORDO WAS ALREADY PROMULGATED WAS NOT AN ACT OF DISOBEDIENCE OR REBELLION AGAINST THE POPE OR THE AUTHORITY OF THE LOCAL BISHOP. PADRE PIO WAS ALWAYS OBEDIENT AND RESPECTFUL OF THE MAGISTERIUM.

PADRE PIO REQUESTED TO BE DISPENSED FROM SAYING THE NOVUS ORDO BECAUSE HE WAS ALREADY OLD AND SICKLY. HE WAS NOT LONGER DISPOSED TO LEARN THE NEW RITE DUE TO HIS OLD AGE AND HIS MEDICAL CONDITION. BUT, PADRE PIO NEVER EVER OPPOSED THE NOVUS ORDO. IN FACT, IN HIS MONASTERY HIS YOUNGER CONFRERES OR BROTHER PRIEST-MONKS YOUNGER THAN HIM OBEYED THE COMMAND OF BLESSED POPE PAUL VI AND STARTED CELEBRATING THE NOVUS ORDO. PADRE PIO NEVER EVER OPPOSED THEM. HE NEVER ATTACKED NOVUS ORDO AND WAS NOT SCANDALIZED BY THEM. PADRE PIO TOGETHER WITH CARDINAL OTTAVIANI, CARDINAL SIRI AND OTHER OLD PRIESTS AND BISHOPS AND CARDINALS OF THAT TIME REMAINED FAITHFUL TO VATICAN II AND THE POPE. THEY DIDN’T JOIN THE FOOLISH REBELLION OF LEFEBVRE.

ALSO, PADRE PIO IS NOT ONLY A PRE-VATICAN II SAINT. HE IS A VATICAN II SAINT AS WELL. HE REMAINED FAITHFUL AND RESPECTFUL OF VATICAN II AND OF THE POPE. LEFEBVRE VISITED HIM BUT HE DIDN’T GIVE HIS SUPPORT TO LEFEBVRE BUT ON THE CONTRARY HE ESTABLISHED FRIENDSHIP AND FREQUENT CORRESPONDENCE WITH BISHOP KAROL WOJTYLA OF POLAND WHO LATER BECAME ST. JOHN PAUL THE GREAT. IN FACT, IT IS RECORDED IN THE PROCESS OF CANONIZATION RECORDS OF ST. PADRE PIO THAT WHEN BISHOP KAROL WOJTYLA SENT HIM A LETTER ASKING FOR THE HEALING OF HIS FRIEND FORMERLY TORTURED BY THE NAZIS AND IS SUFFERING FROM CANCER THE ARCHBISHOP WHO BROUGHT THE LETTER TO PADRE PIO NARRATED THAT THE SAINTLY FRIAR TOLD HIM: “THIS REQUEST CANNOT BE DENIED… KEEP THIS LETTER, LATER ON THEY WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT.” HISTORY ATTESTS THAT THE WOMAN WAS HEALED DUE TO INTERCESSION OF PADRE PIO BY REQEUST OF WOJTYLA.

ULTIMATELY, PADRE PIO WAS BEATIFIED AND CANONIZED BY NO LESS THAN PAPA KAROL WOJTYLA. HE WAS BEATIFIED AND CANONIZED IN AND THROUGH THE SOLEMN NOVUS ORDO MASS AT ST. PETER’S SQUARE. I SUGGEST YOU READ THE BOOK: “ST. JOHN PAUL THE GREAT: His Five Loves” By Jason Evert. YOU WILL TASTE AND SEE THE GREATNESS OF THE MAN WHO BROUGHT DOWN THE COLLAPSE OF EASTERN COMMUNISM IN EUROPE.
