By calling the Pope “Holy Father,” Catholics do not put him on the level of God the Father who is addressed by Our Lord in His High Priestly Prayer as “Holy Father” (Jn. 17:11, although in more modern translations the expression is translated “Righteous Father,” i.e., NIV, NLT, ESV, NASB, CSB, ISB, GWT, ASV, etc.). Catholics acknowledge that only God is absolutely holy; in fact, He alone is the source of all holiness.
